About Scott Robinson:

I am a 2004 graduate from the University of Maryland with a degree in Music Production. I began recording and producing artists in 2002 at my home studio in College Park, MD, working with not only bands that I played with or new, but also local artists in a variety of genres, producing recordings that went on to win multiple awards from the Washington Area Music Association. In 2005, I opened the doors to the new EarCandy Recording studio in Rockville, MD, continuing to produce rock and pop bands.

In 2007, I began working out of larger studios owned by colleagues, including Paul Leavitt's Valencia Recording in Baltimore, MD, Bryan Russell's Red Wire Audio (formerly Matt Squire's SOMD Studios) in Beltsville, MD, and Sean Gaiser's Kensington, MD studio. This allows me to work with high-end ProTools HD systems, top-notch gear, fantastic mic collections, and incredible live rooms. It also allows me the flexibility to choose a studio which is appropriate for the client's needs, and because of my relationship with the studio owners, I am able to charge the client a rate significantly lower than what the typical rate would be.

I have also done a wide variety of work outside of these studios, including the following:

- Worked as the audio and mix engineer for the television show "Spotlight", which features regional artists on surround-sound DVDs
- Worked with Grammy winner Scott Shuman on various recording projects and mastering projects for major labels
- Recorded, mixed and edited countless classical and jazz performances for the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center
- Worked on projects with producers Paul Leavitt and Bryan Russell
- Run live sound at multiple venues
- Mixed and edited recordings done by artists or other engineers, including pitch correction, drum editing and triggering
- Consulted on home recording projects
- Consulted on project studios
- Play drums and co-manage Hotspur (www.hotspurmusic.com)
- Performed on drums and bass as a studio player
- Instruct kids and teens on drums, guitar and bass.

I like to make bands sound like themselves. I like to see a band live before I record them whenever possible. I like recordings to sound real, unless it is inappropriate. I like artists to be comfortable and have fun when recording, and I like artists that are ready to work hard. I like artists that work hard on their songs. I like it if you are open-minded about changing your arrangement, lyrics, or melody. I will always give suggestions or opinions unless you don't want them. I want to know your opinions too. I like artists who understand the importance of good songwriting. I will always take something that feels great over something that is technically perfect, especially on vocals. I will push you for a great vocal delivery. I try to record only bands I like. I like dynamics. I like layers and stuff that sounds cool. I like things that sound BIG. I like things that sound tiny too. I like to make records that I think people will buy and enjoy, and I want to artist to be in love with it. I like if you tour, and promote. I hate when your band breaks up. I like steak and cheese. I like drums and a great drum room. I like to charge you the lowest rate I can. I like to answer your questions!
